Meditation
When I learned Reiki, I thought becoming a Reiki Master was the goal. Little did I know, it was the start. The spring following my certification, I traveled to Majorca, Spain. The apartment, in Palma, offered a great view of the nearby cathedral. Meditation became a daily habit in the gardens of the Royal Palace.
Blending a lot of different meditation techniques, I started to meditate on each of my chakras in the morning.
It goes a little like this:
Root: Focusing on my feet and legs. Checking in with feelings of safety and belonging.
Sacral: Focusing on my reproductive system. Connecting with creativity, sexuality, and sensuality.
Solar Plexus: Focusing on drive and empowerment.
Heart: Gratitude meditation. Making a mental list of all the things and people I love/am grateful for.
Throat: Reciting of the Reiki mantra.
Third-Eye: Imagining and visualising my future life.
Crown: Calling in my spirit guides and deities.
Moon Priestess
During this month, I reflected on the effect of the moon on my body and emotions.
The gravitational pull of the moon is responsible for the movement of entire oceans.
It stands to reason that our bodies, made of around 60% water, would be affected by this force as well.
People I knew, working in emergency medicine, confirmed that they dreaded being scheduled for a shift on the Full Moon as this energy tends to bring in an overwhelming flow of patients.
Women are especially attuned to the energy of the moon, given our 28-day hormonal cycle.
I held my first moon ceremony in Palma.
I started this journey with a course called Living by the Moon with Alicia Meek.
Checking in with myself and the Earth on each Full Moon and New Moon has proven therapeutic.
Try it for yourself. On each New Moon, rest and plant seeds you want to see grow over the next month. On each Full Moon, check on your seeds, help them develop through aligned action, and release what is standing in your way.
In this way, I have helped my life move in a more aligned and authentic direction.
Selene, Goddess of the Moon, was my first connection to Source. Growing this connection has been the thrill and the privilege of my life in recent years.
Astrology
This was also the beginning of a rabbit hole of research I am still pursuing today. Many metaphysical books pile onto my bedside table.
If the moon has such an effect on me, then what about other celestial bodies? Is there something to astrology that I had missed, dismissing it as esoteric fortune-telling?
My love for astrology took root in the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the culinary delights of the Spanish market.
I took another online course: Astrology for Beginners by Sue Fletcher.
My astrological journal started on this trip as well. It has proven helpful to document how each celestial event affects my energy and my life.
I read You Were Born For This: Astrology for Radical Self-Acceptance by Chani Nicholas.
Chani has been my astrological companion ever since. Her app is convenient for following celestial movements and very detailed for your particular birth chart.
It will also send you a notification for each impactful celestial event, as well as a more in-depth description of how and why this is impacting the Earth's energy in general and yours in particular.
Hi, I am a Sagittarius Sun, Pisces Moon, Scorpio Rising. This knowledge gave a new dimension and understanding to my life and my interactions with others and the world.
I would love to discuss your birth chart with you and how the planetary shifts are affecting you and life on Earth right now.
